Acoustic Frontiers’ Audio Equipment Engineering services help you choose the right speakers, subwoofers, and electronics for your listening room, home theater, or home recording studio. We’re not just trying to sell you boxes—we have an objective and comprehensive approach to assembling the ideal audio system for your room, needs, performance aspirations, and budget. Here’s how it works:

Select speakers. Once we have your room layout, we know where the speakers go, the distance from the listening seats, and how far they are off-axis. From this information, we can calculate the dispersion and output required to hit a target SPL. These calculations allow us to select speakers that meet the engineering requirements of the room, as well as the form factor and budget needs.
Choose amplifiers. After speakers are selected, we know how many Watts of power is required to drive them to target SPL levels. Using that information, we'll select amps to meet the numbers, as well as your budget goals.
Identify subwoofers. After the number of subs and their locations are finalized, we simulate the frequency response at each listening seat using Boundary Element Modeling (BEM) techniques and calculate the SPL output required to hit targets at each frequency. Subs can then be selected to meet those requirements using published SPL output test data such as CEA-2010.
