Acoustic Frontiers has the expertise to help you select the best projector for your Home Theater.
Request A QuoteHome theater projectors create the moving images that are displayed on projection screens.
These days, all home theater projectors are digital and use an imaging chip to modulate the beam from a light source. While there are many different varieties of imaging technology, most home theater projectors use a variant of liquid crystal display (LCD), whereby three chips, one per primary color (i.e., red, green, blue), modulate the white light generated by an ultra-high pressure (UHP) mercury lamp light source. Common variants of LCD are LCOS (JVC) and SXRD (Sony), which incorporate a reflective layer. The leading alternative imaging technology is DLP, or Digital Light Projection, which in general do not offer the contrast performance of LCD.
Alternate light sources - particularly laser - are becoming standard for high-end projectors and offer better image quality, higher energy efficiency, and drastically increased lifespan.
For most home theaters, our recommendation is the Sony VPL-XW6000ES.
This 2500 lumen laser projector has enough light output to adequately illuminate large acoustically transparent screens together with lens motorization to support 2.4 aspect ratio projection screens. Black levels meet our standards thanks to a combination of laser dimming and a dynamic iris, resulting in blacks which equal the class-leading JVCs. In addition, motion performance, image stability, and intra-scene contrast are superior, which is why this projector gets our recommendation.
The best home theaters need plenty of light to adequately illuminate their large, acoustically transparent screens.
The 10,000 lumen Sony GTZ-380 is our choice for most reference class home theaters. It's laser-illuminated, has Sony's top ARC-F lens, meets DCI-P3 color gamut, and is liquid-cooled. Lens quality makes a big difference in image quality, and unfortunately, an awesome lens is only something you get at higher price points.

“Acoustic Frontiers were very patient and helpful when it came to selecting speakers and equipment for the room. As a vendor for a multitude of companies, I really felt that I was getting objective advice. They helped me select everything from the speakers, AVR, to even the projector and screen! The end result was nothing short of amazing and my family and I couldn’t be more thrilled. Acoustic Frontiers receives my highest recommendation. We can’t thank you all enough!”
“One of Acoustic Frontiers’ strengths was their willingness to work flexibly with us from both a budget and design perspective. Although they are of course well prepared to make equipment suggestions, they are also willing to work with whatever equipment is already in place to create the best system possible. We ended up with a mix of gear, but it all works together seamlessly. Post-installation and calibration, the system looks and sounds phenomenal!”
“Acoustic Frontiers started out with a design review (since the room work had already begun) and after a couple of interactions I was comfortable enough to let them plan/guide the rest of the build, and purchase the AV equipment from them. They took the time to understand our requirements, discuss equipment options and budget considerations, and were able to provide recommendations without any over-selling. The room has turned out beyond our expectations, and it would not have been possible without Acoustic Frontiers’ home theater products & services.”
