What's New

Our new headquarters!!

Over the past couple of weeks we have been consolidating our offices, workshop, and inventory storage into one location. We are proud to announce that Acoustic Frontiers has a new headquarters just outside of downtown San Rafael. It has been a true team effort with Nyal and Matt building out the shop space and Nicola designing the office space. Nyal just completed the office remodel over the weekend and things are really shaping up. Needless to say, we are very excited to have a new headquarters with everything under one roof. We even have a place to park our van! We could not have grown our business to this level without our loyal clients. This being said, we are always looking for new ways to improve and expand our business. The next step for us will be expanding our line of acoustic treatment products. Many of these products will be custom made, exclusively for Acoustic Frontiers. We are greatly looking forward to being able to offer you many products not currently available on the market. If you are looking for a particular product or service that we do not currently offer, please reach out to us. We would love to hear from you.

Acoustic Fabric Testing Results Are In

One of the most commonly used acoustic fabrics is Guilford of Maine's (GoM) Anchorage line. We recently tested this fabric against a handful of others and found that it was one of the poorest performing of the bunch. As you can see in the graph below, the GoM Anchorage fabric has a very uneven absorption across the frequency range. It deviates significantly from flat from 1kHz to 4.5kHz and then again from 8.5kHz to 20kHz. This fabric has been used for decades and is considered industry standard. The trouble with this is that many other, higher performing, acoustic fabrics have been developed since Anchorage's initial inception. Take for example GoM's FR701, it has much flatter absorption properties comparatively. Other fabrics we tested included the Acoustimac (AM) line. While the Suede line was a particularly poor performer, the AM DMD and Executive line performed well. Please note that these fabrics will have different effects if used on acoustic panels versus in front of speakers. If used in front of speakers, your system should be calibrated after the fabric is in place.
