Creating a system you love shouldn't be difficult. The Acoustic Frontiers blog is here to help.
Travis C. is a mechanical engineer and movie buff living in Silicon Valley. He loves to build things and converted his double-wide garage into a home theater.
Travis' home theater is a remarkable blend of his passion for DIY projects and his meticulous research in selecting high-quality components from renowned brands like KEF, Trinnov, and JVC. Recognizing the value of expert guidance, Travis sought advice from the AVS Forum community and engaged the services of Acoustic Frontiers to ensure optimal room design. With a strong foundation of knowledge and professional input, Travis took on the task of building the theater himself, resulting in a truly customized and exceptional entertainment space.
Room size: 14’x21’x9
Our comprehensive design review services of the client’s plans for home theater layout included an assessment of key elements such as speaker locations, determining the appropriate number, type, and optimal placement of subwoofers, and ensuring optimal video viewing angles and sight lines. Additionally, we advised on baffle wall and riser designs, which are crucial for enhancing audio performance and creating an optimal viewing environment.
The acoustic treatment design included our exclusive 12” x 12” x 4” deep WAVE diffuser and POLY absorber as well as an 18” deep hybrid baffle wall.
Equipment: Kaleidescape Terra & Strato, KEF “Extreme Home Theatre” speakers, DSS and RTJ 18” sealed subwoofers, Trinnov Altitude & Amplitude, Seymour Screen Excellence TRIM motorized masking screen, JVC NX-9 projector.
With meticulous attention to detail and a deep understanding of room acoustics, Acoustic Frontiers crafted a tailored acoustic treatment design that transformed Travis' space into an AVS Forum Home Theater of The Month in October 2021. “We built this home theater so I could watch all of my favorite movies. It’s just a better experience overall. I wanted it to look better than anything possible, other than what you can see at the studio." Travis C.
