Creating a system you love shouldn't be difficult. The Acoustic Frontiers blog is here to help.
Dan M is a home theater enthusiast with a young family from North Carolina.
Dan approached Acoustic Frontiers in 2019. Dan had an unfinished attic that he wanted to convert into a dedicated home theater. As a lot of our home theater projects are in basements, we were excited by the unique challenges this space presented us with, especially from a layout perspective. Dan also wanted soundproofing so that he could watch movies late at night and not disturb his wife and kids in the bedrooms below.
Check out the slanted ceilings we had to work around in our photo montage of Dan’s attic prior to its transformation into his dream movie palace.
To support Dan’s Home Theater project, we performed our COMPLETE design package, which includes everything you could possibly need designing in your home theater (except for interior design). Key deliverables included:
Dan already had some of the equipment, including JTR Noesis 212HTR speakers, JTR Captivator 2400 subs and a JVC projector. We supplied the rest: JBL Control 328C for surrounds, a Seymour AV projection screen, Middle Atlantic racking components and the AudioControl AVR-7.
The acoustic treatment design incorporated DIY absorbers and our WAVE diffusers for installation behind Dan’s fabric stretch work on the walls, and fabric wrapped mitered edge Kinetics Versatune panels for a clean look on the ceiling.
“After doing a lot of research on avsforum.com, I knew just enough to know I wanted professional help in designing my dream theater. A few names were consistently mentioned on the forums, and Nyal Mellor from Acoustic Frontiers was one that really got great feedback. I'm super happy with my decision! He made sure he knew exactly what my goals were and designed the space accordingly. I think some designers might be pushy about using specific equipment, but I had some of my own speakers, so he made sure everything he recommended worked around what I already had. Any time I had a question (and there were many!) about something he was quick to respond. My general contractor was great, but didn't have experience with anything this technical, so having Acoustic Frontiers to lean on to make sure everything was done according to plan really put my mind at ease. And the end result was amazing! Great sound, great picture, and just a great experience anytime I head in there to enjoy a movie or sporting event. I would definitely recommend Acoustic Frontiers to anyone looking for a top of the line home theater.” Dan M., NC, USA.
